Fonts on websites.

Posted on:

So a couple of years ago the phrase “sorry but you can only use these fonts” was used when telling a client they couldn’t use the really cool font their son had picked out for the main content area of their site, but those days are nearly over. I say nearly because not all fonts are available to be used on websites but a lot are. Here are some of the ways that it can be done.

My personal choice (maybe because its free and fast) – Google Web Fonts. Yeh they can do everything, even self driving cars but that’s another post. I like it because its easy to use, you don’t have to sign up to use it, and with 222 fonts so far there is usually something for what you need.

Another choice is – Fontdeck. Now this one gives you access to over 1,000 fonts, all of which you can try out for free just by tweaking your CSS. You then have to pay if you want it on your live site.

Other sites where you can get fonts include –

Font Squirrel
Typotheque
FontFont
FontsLive
TypeKit
Fontspring
Typophile
